General education is a required component of your time at PSU. Learn about University Studies and the University Honors College as you prepare to select courses for the Fall term!

Academic Advising & Fall Term Registration (Various Locations, See Below)

Meet with academic advisors in a group setting as you learn about major requirements, degree requirements, and Banweb - our Student Information System. You will have the opportunity to engage with University staff and your future classmates as you create your schedule.

If you did not bring a laptop or tablet with you today - no worries! We’ve got you covered. After participating in Academic Advising, join the Orientation Team in the Course Registration lab located in Millar Library 170 for assistance with course registration.

Optional Activities

Finished with course registration? Reunite with your family or guests at the Simon Benson House and participate in one of these optional activities:
University Housing Tour (Departs at 4:00 pm from the Simon Benson House)

Join the staff at University Housing as they lead you to your new living space. Tours of Broadway/Ondine/Epler will depart at 4pm SHARP from the front stairs of the Simon Benson House.

Get Your PSU ID Card (Western Hemlock 26)

Students living on campus can say “cheese” and pick up their PSU ID card today. If you are not living on campus this Fall, you can get your PSU ID card during our Vikings Days held September 20-24.

Disability Resource Center (3:30 pm to 4:30 pm - SMSU 116)

The Disability Resource Center ensures students with cognitive/learning, chronic health, physical, mental health, hearing, vision, sensory, and other disabilities get the support they need to be successful at PSU. Please stop by during drop-in hours to speak with an Access Counselor & Consultant, drop off documentation from a qualified medical professional, or sign up for an appointment to happen in the near future! These drop-ins are brief 15 minute meetings where DRC staff can explain the process of registering, give an overview of accommodations and services, and explain more about how the DRC can be a partner in education with the student throughout their time at PSU.

Honors College Drop-In Advising (Honors House - 2:30 pm to 4 pm)

Questions about the University Honors College? Come by the Honors House to review your academic schedule, ask questions about the curriculum, and get more familiar with all that Honors provides.

Have you been admitted to PSU’s Honors College? Come meet academic advisor Brianna Avery - you’ll have a chance to ask questions about the program, get advice about Honors courses and academic planning, and connect with other incoming first year students.

University Honors College: (SMSU 327) Breakout Session II ONLY

This session is required for all students who are co-admitted. Co-Admission is a program where students are admitted to PSU and one of our six partner community colleges, including Portland CC, Mt Hood CC, Clackamas CC, Clatsop CC, Chemeketa CC, and Clark College. The program allows for coordination between PSU and the community college as well as coordinated financial aid and access to services at both schools. Students who are interested in co-admission are also welcome to join.

Ready to make the move to PSU? This session is for you! Learn about residence halls, your University Housing contract, dining on campus, tips for a stress-free move-in and what happens between move-in and the start of classes!

Your Future Starts Now: Presented by Advising & Career Services (SMSU 294)

Looking for a job to help pay for school and prepare for your career? In this session, Advising & Career Services Staff will discuss opportunities for student employment, internships and other ways to enhance your academic experiences as you prepare for your career. Information about selecting a major, making a career decision and planning for the future will also be provided.

I’m Here. Now What? (SMSU 238)

You’ve worked so hard to get here but...what’s next? Hear from Orientation Leaders who were in your shoes just one year ago as they describe their transition into becoming a college student. The classroom experience, social life, work/ life balance...they’re ready to talk about it all! This is a Q&A session and questions from you are encouraged.

Your Best U (SMSU 328)

What does it take to “Be Your Best U” while attending Portland State University? Representatives from Student Health and Counseling, Campus Rec, and PSU Eats are here to let you know about PSU’s health, wellness and dining resources!

Campus Tour (Park Blocks Stage outside of SMSU)

PSU can feel like a big place. Come learn the lay of the land during a campus tour hosted by our legendary Orientation Leaders. This tour will show you around the central part of campus and get you familiar with all the hot spots. Feel free to ask questions, snap photos, and get comfortable with the campus - YOUR campus!
